Period Property Renovation in London
Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian and listed homes — renovated with the right materials, the right consents and the craft these buildings were built with.
Period property — restored cornicing, sash windows or facade
Old buildings play by different rules
A period house is a system: solid walls that need to breathe, lime plaster and mortars, timber that moves with the seasons. Renovate it with modern materials in the wrong places — cement renders, impermeable paints, poorly fitted plastics — and the building fights back with damp and decay.
We renovate period properties with methods that suit them: lime where lime belongs, breathable insulation strategies, sash windows repaired and draught-proofed rather than reflexively replaced, cornice and mouldings repaired in place or run new to match. Modern services and comfort are woven in without erasing what makes the house worth owning.
For listed buildings and conservation areas we manage the consent process — listed building applications, conservation officers, and the documentation they expect. Much of this work overlaps with our full renovation and house refurbishment services, delivered with a period-appropriate specification.

Renovating a listed home?
Listed status covers the whole building — interiors included — so alterations most houses take for granted need consent. The process rewards preparation: clear drawings, justified proposals and a contractor whose work conservation officers trust. We prepare applications with that in mind.

Period property FAQs
Can period homes be made energy efficient?
Substantially, yes — draught-proofing, breathable insulation, secondary or slim double glazing, and modern heating make a large difference. The key is using vapour-open materials so efficiency doesn’t create damp.
Do you replace or repair original features?
Repair first, replicate where repair isn’t possible. Original joinery, plasterwork and floors are usually better quality than their modern replacements — and they’re what the house’s value lives in.
What extra approvals do period properties need?
Conservation areas restrict external changes; listed buildings need consent for internal and external alterations alike. We confirm your property’s status and manage the applications.
